496-2 bolt block perfect condition allready checked out by dave at dne race engines needs a quick hone job and your ready to go-just up graded to a better block as im putting together 1000 hp so the 2 bolt block wont work 4 my application.((( also have a like new jacuzi nozzle))) 250$ for block 50$ for nozzle steve 760-269-5886
What makes this a 496 block? Looks like a regular 454 to me if it is 4.250/4.280/4.310..........Is it a MK IV??? or ????what........A 496 needs a crankshaft that is a bit longer than 4.0, like 4.25.......Please explain, if this is a factory 496, what is the bore?.........And did they really make a 2 bolt 496 truck engine?..Just a little confusing.....Ray
No crank? What happened to the crank?
Is it an old style 2 piece rear seal or new style 1 piece rear seal?
Looks like an older 2 piece rear seal, so it cannot be a 496 without a stroker crank right? Otherwise it's just a 454, possibly larger with some overbore.
Isn't the 8.1L (2001-2003?) truck engine (no longer put in trucks by GM) a 496? My dad has a 2001 Crew Cab 4x4 with an 8...
its a mark 4 block 454 60 over witch is now a 496 2.250 crank 4.310 bore perfect condition have the invoice from DNE dave checked it out its ready to go,im using every thing in the motor to build a 1000 hp motor

It is not a 496 until someone puts a

Well played.
I think the point here is he is posting a 496 for sale its really not one without the crank, It should be advertised as a .060 over 454block with 2bold mains, Honestly its still not a bad deal if it could be honed out & used as-is.
It's a great deal if it can be honed and reused, just wanted to point out it's not a 496 without the stroker crank, and he is selling block and main caps only, no crank.

No Prob, $250 is a good deal. If it were winter time and I didn't need money for my boat/fuel for my boat/truck to go ...
Oh, and this guy is gonna have some good rebuildable heads for this motor soon if someone is looking to get a motor together, your block, his heads, and find a crank and they will be good to go on the big parts for it: http://www.performanceboats.com/html...ad.php?t=40112

Cool. I really hope I'm not having to replace or put a shit load of cash into re machining my existing block. At this point I have no clue if it's still stock, .30 over, or .60 over, or if the block it's self is even damaged. From what I've heard of the costs of machine shop work, this would probably save me money if it goes that route.
it's a good deal, why not put some main studs in it, line hone it, and run it? the studs help tremendously in the "cap walk" department. have made close to 760hp with a 2-bolt & studs, w/no issues
