Do you have the stator in your hand or is it still installed in the bike.

atoka1960 replied 1 month ago
it is still on bike

Am I correct by saying your battery is not charging and your not sure if the problem is your stator or regulator? If Yes: Stators are pretty rugged. What usually takes out a stator is a shorted regulator. (and of course a "loose rotor") There is a good chance if the stator is shorted, the primary oil will smell burnt. You can make some G0-No-Go tests with an ordinary ohm meter but they ...

what i want to know is a three phase stator has three wires instead of two how do you connect to check stator output

Hoople replied 1 month ago
You want to check the output of the stator directly without inserting a regulator and battery to make a complete charging system.? There is no real easy what to do that, that I know of. It could be done, but it would be involved. You would have to setup dummy loads on the outputs to do it. But,... you could make some very basic tests using a meter. Disconnect the 3 pin connector ...

use ohm meter, check each wire and see if you have a major difference, if one is different you have a open stator, if all three look close, stator is good, i work at a electric motor shop, this is how we do it. its prob your regulator , i have replaced 2 on atv, and 1 on dads 85 fxstc.

Hoople replied 1 month ago
Ron, In your motor shop do you guys rewind armatures that have brush commutators or are you strictly induction motors. Hoop!

ron1978 replied 1 month ago
majority induction, every blue moon we get some dc work

Hoople replied 1 month ago
That is fascinating work. There were so many times in my life I wish I knew someone that did that kind of work for a living. How long have you been doing it.

ron1978 replied 1 month ago
10 years in may i worked 5 years for lamb greys harbour, making recycling paper mill machines, from raw metal , to fully funtional, i loved it but job went to mexico, so i went into the motor shops field, i also do field balancing of single and duel plane fans, of and size.

look at close to bottom of page to see how to check stator and regulator. My Motorcycle Won't Start!! What Now? The Stator can be checked with the Ohms function on your meter. Locate and remove the plug for the stator on the front of the engine block. You will see two or three pins inside. Set the meter for low Ohms, and measure the continuity between these pins. 5 Ohms or less is what you are looking for here. Set the meter to the...

I'm glad you're here Hoople. You have provided some excellent explanations on the workings of the electrics we see most. It's one thing to know them, but you seem to have a gift for being able to explain and "teach" in terms that we can understand. My hat is off to you....Thanks
