I agree with you, I probably spent close to $1,700.00, But I had a lot of parts laying around. Sill have a lot of Chevy parts, Infact.

I have never use Eagle, the cheapest I've gone is Scat. I don't need to go to Alaska to know its cold there. And yes you can hop up an engine for $700, but you have to start with a good solid enigne and watch your P's and Q's on the budget. figure $70 on gaskets, $75 on a used intake, $100 on a cam kit, $200 on heads, $50 for springs, and the remainder for headers/carb tuning kit. If done right you can gain over 100hp, but...

Can't help you there . I get almost that much for basic machining of the block! Check around for bargains. Ebay, Craigslist, Racing junk. Just be careful and don't believe all the stories told by sellers!!

yes, rebuild the 400. if you shop around you could find a used set of vortec heads and intake and use them on the 400. again... what car?, what trans?, what converter? gear ratio? what are you planning for the engine (street, street/strip/ race)? need to know these things first so you can select a cam to match the gears and converter and then match the compression ratio to the cam.

just rebuild the 400 then. more cubes = more power.
