Worried about the crank?? As strong as any other GM SBC casting. The problem with the 400 crank is that by the time you pay to have it checked and the mains ground. You can buy a stronger cast crank from the aftermkt.

ok thanks i have another question how far can i boar it out to and is there an engine kit you recommend?

BOBCRMAN@aol.com replied 2 months ago
Common overbore bore sizes for 383 = +.020 .030 .040 some .060" Usually just enuff to get a straight round bore.

Can't help you there . I get almost that much for basic machining of the block! Check around for bargains. Ebay, Craigslist, Racing junk. Just be careful and don't believe all the stories told by sellers!!

I got my 383 on craigslist, complete, with dyno print out, engine stand, an extra carb, and with headers. He gave me 7k in recipts. I paid 1500 for it. It had only been run on the dyno.

I have never use Eagle, the cheapest I've gone is Scat. I don't need to go to Alaska to know its cold there. And yes you can hop up an engine for $700, but you have to start with a good solid enigne and watch your P's and Q's on the budget. figure $70 on gaskets, $75 on a used intake, $100 on a cam kit, $200 on heads, $50 for springs, and the remainder for headers/carb tuning kit. If done right you can gain over 100hp, but...

I got the Brodix IK 200's, they were recomended from guys on this site, I got the bigger runners cause I may go with nitrous down the road, it would seem you may want the 200's also if you run a 400. The guys on this site know their stuff! I was looking at cheap aluminum heads before I made the choice to get the ones I got. I did not get the cheap one's however the performance I am getting out of my motor is insane with my...

yes, rebuild the 400. if you shop around you could find a used set of vortec heads and intake and use them on the 400. again... what car?, what trans?, what converter? gear ratio? what are you planning for the engine (street, street/strip/ race)? need to know these things first so you can select a cam to match the gears and converter and then match the compression ratio to the cam.
