You were all so helpful in my last inquiry for my first ever rifle (Ruger 10/22) so I am back again to seek your knowledge. I am absolutely loving my Ruger it is very accurate and comfortable. What is the next logical progression from a 22 rifle...223? Here's what's important to me... 1) Not much more recoil, the lighter the better (ex. I love my 12 ga but hate the recoil so I tend to shoot ...
For under $1000 I would stick with an AR-15 platform. There are sooo many accessories, upgrades, different caliber uppers, etc for the AR-15 type weapons. Add to it prices have been dropping on AR's. You can buy a brand new Colt 6920 for $1100 - $1200. A great deal is the factory seconds (blemished models) from CMMG http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com...art=1987422&cat=1 61& I would buy one of ...
I had a "new Mini", it did not meet the accuracy I was promised, I sold it shortly after scoping it. I would say get a AR-15, get a BCM midlength upper (if you want to wait, they will be coming out with LightWeight profile barrels)
Sounds like an AR is in your future. I'd recommend something simple like a CMMG or S&W carbine length gun. I'm torn between recommending a piston gun or traditional direct gas impingement system. The former is (theoretically) more reliable, and definitely easier to clean. The latter is (theoretically) more accurate, and definitely lighter and less expensive. WRT type of platform, if you're ...
Good to hear the 10/22 is still working for you. The next logical progression is the .223 AR -- most models are accurate, they can be pretty light, they're flexible (sights, lights, & a gazillion useful & non-useful doo-dads), and they have decent round capacity. If you're looking for a tack driver, IMO kiss off the mini 14. The newer ones are quite a bit better than the old ones, but they ...
P226RN, Have you looked at Rem bolt actions? The model Seven is basically a smaller/lighter version of the M700, and in .243 it's a lightweight, light kicking tack driver. I don't know the pricing but I'm sure you could pick up the rifle, a good scope, sling and ammo for well under $1k. Also, I shot a Rem 750 in .243 and I want one BAD! It is heaverier than a std bolt gun, but it's a semiauto ...
I know it’s a strong opinion, but I think it’s pretty close to dumb to buy any other AR than Colt right now (with some exceptions like Noveske). I recommend Colt for the quality of the product, cost vs. value, and resale value. In your stated price range a Colt 6920 looks good to me. A 6920 is only a little over your budget, is lightweight, is accurate, and has very little recoil. You can ...
As big a Mini 14 fan as I am I have to agree that it may not be what your looking for but I also think someone else was right in that to get what you want in an AR will likely bend you budget. Bsides shopping for, and deciding on, an AR may drive you bughouse with all the choices. I have to side with the "bolt action .243" crowd. with the budget you outlined you could get some great optics and ...
I’m no rifleman, but here’s an example of what a bone stock Colt AR can do. Basically moa, 2” at 200 yards with cheap AAE Federal .223 ammo with a 6X scope on a windy day. I can’t do it every time, but I can repeat it. 5 rounds into 2” at 200 yds. This rifle will do better with different ammo, I just can’t afford to feed it the Hornady ammo it really likes. Emory

The ones I've shot do seem to be a little more front-end heavy, but only upon picking them up. I didn't really notice the slight change balance point after a few rounds. To me an AR's balance isn't so critical as it is with a clays shotgun. There are...
Thanks again all... Still looking and I am liking the AR 15 family. Any particular brands to stay away from? Also piston vs carbine? What are the +'s and -'s? As always you guys are the greatest! Thanks-T

I love a Colt but the prices you have quoted have me interested especially with the good quality stuff...
quote: I would second an AR, and the 30/30 I had was one of the hardest kicking gun I've shot. Though a 357Mag lever would be fun. Honest to gerbils, I am not trying to be an A-hole, But exactly what kind of 30-30 was it? I admit the old crescent buttplates were a little nasty but honestly my wife (Height-5' 1" weight- [ REDACTED ], uh, very proportional)will shoot my Marlin or Winchester all day long, if I'm buying the...

quote: Originally posted by crofoot629: Colt and S&W .22 AR's seem to be junk. Emory BS. I have a S&W MP15-22 and it is EXCELLENT. Very accurate, reliable, same manual of arms as a std AR. Highly recommended by those who've shot them, I was at the range sunday and all 3 other shooters there at the time all had S&W AR-22's, all spoke highly of them........................DJ
