Thread: 2nd Amendment & Gun Control, Is There A middle Ground
Started 4 months, 1 week ago by gunsite
I was sent a article about GUNS, both legal and illegal. As a retire officer i never understood how gun related street crimes always end up being blamed on, and, having pressure turned up against Law biding citizens who obtain their right to own a gun legally. The first stepped taken in fighting gun related crime is to control the gun ownership law biding citizens, that even sounds ...
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
Benjamin Franklin
In other words, NO! There is no compromise.
"People who object to ...
We as gun owners are the only ones giving up anything! What has the other side given up? Don't like gun ownership then leave and go live in a country like England, Russia,China,Cuba etc! This is our country and Constitution-neither will be comprimised any more! I vote to repeal all gun laws that impeded/not in conformance with the 2nd!!!!
Aside from the principle that self-defense and being allowed the tools to defend one's self from unlawful attack are both basic human rights (though rights that are often infringed for the benefit of whatever thugs happen to be ruling the country), there can be no compromise on this issue. Two practical reasons are that, first, we tried that in the 60's and early 70's, especially the NRA, and ...
No, there is no "middle road," whatever that implies, nor should we concede or compromise on Constitutional issues. Nevertheless, the Second Amendment deserves to be read logically, and holistically with its sister Amendments. Many anti-gunners are fantastically inconsistent when it comes to how they read the Second Amendment versus how they read the First Amendment, for example, and I find some ...
There is no middle ground. There is no compromise.
On the issue of 2A, "compromise" means law abiding citizens give up more of the fundamental right this ammendment was designed to protect. On the other hand, the anti-gunners hace successfully restricted more of our liberty.
A compromise (which I think is the same as "middle ground") would be removing only half of the 20,000 anti-2A ...
I see it differently, I think almost everyone is somewhere in the middle ground.
Some people think all guns should be illegal. Some people think if you can carry it, it should be legal with no paperwork/background check. Everyone else is somewhere in between.
I would have no problem with shall issue licenses and background checks for full auto and RPGs and such.

At the end of the day, I do not believe that we will ever find a middle ground, since those who want "reasonable" gun controls tend to define "reasonable" as no guns for anybody except the wealthy and politically well-connected. Also, if gun owners are in the minority then why do recent polls suggest that well over half the people believe that guns laws should be left alone or relaxed? Why does over 80% of the general...

I do not like to say it, but your reasoning ability is not well developed. In many cases, you are unable to see the inherent contradictions in your own arguments. Now, you may view this as a flame, but it's not. Most people will agree with your views. They are still wrong, and guilty of confusing beliefs with logic. Jerry Thanks for correcting my faulty memory! tc556guy I tried to read that conveluted paper they call a Constitution in NY- Just thinking about it makes my head hurt- I never seen or read anywhere in it that a NYer has a right to own/bare firearms. Tons of stuff on how the state can and will tax you! Tons of ways to make you a criminal, very little on rights of the people of NY.

Well, I guess you just eliminated the need for the Supreme Court. People who have made a lifetime of studying the Constitution and its historical context, brilliant and learned people who know much more about it than you and I ever will, often differ about...
