From Dodger thoughts and elsewhere...... But there are some who think DeWitt actually is the answer.  For a few weeks now, I've saved this comment from Dodger Thoughts reader CanuckDodger. It might not be the last word, but it has words worth considering. You asked me what makes me so confident in Dewitt's offense. A couple of things. First, let's deal with the issue of his Triple A numbers ...

I like DeWitt.  I think that would be a viable option as long as we have an insurance plan.  Belliard most likely.  DeWitt is also nice to have on the bench because he can play more than one position and has a left handed bat.

I would like to sign Derosa and Figgins to play 2b and 3b eventually grooming Dewitt and start using Casey Blake as a deep threat off the bench Wouldn't be a bad idea if he can start learning some 1b too......  Cause if Loney doesn't start showing me some power thier he might as well become a part time player or trade bait.......   C. Martin 1b Loney/ Blake 2b Figgins/ Derosa/ Dewitt 3b ...

I too like Blake DeWitt.  The guy I would really like to see us acquire would be Dan Uggla of the Marlins.  He is still under the Marlins control so the Dodgers would have to trade for him. I'd start Uggla at 2B and DeWitt at 3B.  Blake would come off the bench.

I don't understand the issue with 2B.  Isn't Belliard a good option for that position next year?  He didn't bring the defense that Hudson brought, but he had some nice pop in his bat - and he is very inexpensive - an eleven year veteran at just under $2M per year.  That's the kind of veteran that the Dodgers can afford. The Dodgers may have very limited funds due to this whole McCourt thing.  I...

Dodgers also have a prospect who should be ready at 2B in a year or two - Jamie Pedroza. Hit 15 home runs and stole 35 bases in A ball this year. Lets see what he can do in double A next year before we sign someone else to a big contract. Going to need some young guys to come up to offset the big contracts that guys like Kemp, Ethier, Martin, Kershaw, etc. are going to demand.

Whatever the cheapest option is, the Dodgers will take.  So Dewitt will be the starting 2nd baseman.  Belliard could platoon there, he's not an everyday option.  No way he can play everyday.  Dewitt sucks, but he's cheap.

Owed 17M for two years with a 3rd yr option. Value wise he is the best choice. Any other 2B worth getting will end up being just as expensive.    Put down the pipe and walk away.
