Thread: 2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?   If you are of the Christian faith: What does this verse mean to you? Do you believe it? Do you follow it?   If you are NOT of the Christian faith, but are a believer in God: What does this verse mean to you? ...

Kind of a stuck up verse if you ask me.  It kind of sounds like it's telling Christians to not have anything to do with nonChristians, which is not what Jesus wanted. I'm an atheist, btw.

If you are an atheist (possibly agnostic too, but I hate to group th two together because I do recognize the difference): What does this verse mean to you? What are your thoughts on this verse? Do Christians in your life seem to adhere to this verse?   It means those who believe should stick with those of similar beliefs so as not to be tainted by those of us who do not believe....

I don't have a problem with avoiding wickedness/darkness.  I do have a problem with avoiding nonbelievers, and I definitely don't think that nonbelievers = wickedness and darkness. Two different things to me. But then, I don't take the Bible literally, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I'm in the atheist camp - I am not familiar with the verse so I am only going by that quote, but to me it sounds like stay away from the unbelievers because they are bad and wrong. I think it is an effort to separate the believers from the unbelievers so that us unbelievers can't taint them and make them question their faith. I think like tends to stay with like. But I also think that ...

If you are of the Christian faith: What does this verse mean to you? Do not become to involved(marry, best friend them) with a non believer. It doesn't mean totally shun them, just put your believes before them. The "bad" believe is more likely to wear off on one verses' ones "good" believes. I don't know, I've heard better explanations, but fuck its been awhile.. Do you believe...

Pretty much means (to me, a Pagan who was raised a christian) that if you're a believer your faith is compromised if you socialize with nonbelievers. Guess that means my whole family is compromised. Also, since I do believe in the goddess but not GOD, this verse means nothing to me, since I see the bible as a tool used to scare people into believing in god. Since the entire bible is ...

I'm a Pagan, so I believe in a higher power, but not necessarily God in the monotheistic omnipotent sense. I am familiar with that particular verse, but I always took "yoked together" as a reference to marriage. I basically thought it was saying Christians should not marry outside the faith. I can understand some people not wanting to marry outside their faith; how do you spend your life with...

I'm Christian. I think it means that believers are not to marry unbelievers b/c we may be led away. It is easier to grow as a Christian in partnership with another Christian.

If you are NOT of the Christian (I'm taking this as not of Catholicism) faith, but are a believer in God: What does this verse mean to you?  "Yoked" is the operative word here.  It is a binding between two people.  Developing a bond, a binding agreement, a firm attachment with someone who doesn't believe in the same beginning and end (I'm not talking about creation here, I'm talking goal ...

If you are NOT of the Christian (I'm taking this as not of Catholicism) faith, but are a believer in God: What does this verse mean to you?? "Yoked" is the operative word here.? It is a binding between two people.? Developing a?bond, a binding agreement, a firm?attachment?with someone who doesn't believe in the same beginning and end is destined to develop some form of conflict.? It is that way with Faith, and an entire...
