Thread: 250 E-TEC water pump life span and cost

Started 1 year, 8 months ago by Subguy
I know the manaul says 3yr or 300hrs for the water pump. My previous shop said they wouldn't bother until 400 or 500 hrs or overr 3 years. I'll be approaching 400 hours if I go to the 3yr point. Thoughts/recommendations? What is the ballpark cost for replacement, I have fresh gear case oil already. Also, if I have to have my lower unit yanked under warranty for peeling paint, what extra time/...

Many shops will charge different prices. We charge $150.00 plus the pump kit which is appox $75.00.. If they are pulling the gearcase for warranty work then the labor would be much less to replace the pump. Again it all depends ...
