2006 Mount Eden Chardonnay Edna Valley Wolff Vineyard popped a little too cold so didn't initially show much on the nose, but eventually opened to reveal apple pie & pear notes... creamy and oaked on the palate, medium bodied & viscous with sweet sugar coated green apples turning spicy and nuanced with vanilla bean on the finish, a touch of pepper... a pleasant drink with a mild cheddar and ...

I had the '06 a month ago and didn't like it nearly as much as the '02 or '05. Well made but too much sulpher for my taste. I couldn't get past it but maybe it was a bad bottle.

Thanks for the notes on the 06 Newton unfiltered chard. I had the 04 recently and it was showing well. I think the 04 has some life ahead of it.

I was indeed referring to the Newton. Had it by itelf after a dinner which had some steak tips in a spicy southwestern marinade from a local butcher shop. It's possible my tastes were affected by the spices but the sulpher was too much for me. I have a couple more I'll try soon, hopefully, as Board-O said, it was just a bad bottle. I was indeed referring to the Newton. Had it by itelf after a dinner which had some steak tips in a spicy southwestern marinade from a local butcher shop.
