A successor to the FRC C5 made its debut in 2001 as the Z06, a nod to the high performance Z06 version of the C2 Corvette of the 1960s. Nice write up! Can you explain what the sodium filled exhaust valves do? Are they meant for weight, heat transfer?

Sodium filled valves are used when extra cooling is required. The hollow valves contain sodium which melts during engine operation. Valve action causes the sodium to circulate, removing heat from the valve head. The heat travels up the valve stem and is transferred to the cylinder head. Coolant channels in the cylinder head carry the heat away

Hi, dont know if it is of interest for you, but the Z06 never was officially exported to Germany. If you wanted to buy one you had to import it on your own. On the other hand, every "common" C5 produced for sale in Germany had the Z06 brakes from 2002 on. What also might be surprising is that you dont have to pay much more for a Z06 than for a "common" C5 in Germany. Might have to do with ...
