My friends and I decided we are going to give it a go. I have never done any sort of 1/4 mile or 1/8 racing. My car is 98 RS, with just an intake, ...

Best advice: don't be a pussy! Seriously, its harder to break your tranny than you'd think. Launch around 3500-4k... ease your foot off the clutch until you can feel it grab, and then let off as fast as you can. You're at 5000', right? Anything under 16 seconds would be impressive.

basic lauching tip:
instead of just unloaded letting the clutch out in 1st, you want to hold the car tight on the start line.
what you want to do ( and practice this lightly first) is hold the handbrake with the clutch in so the car cant move.
slowly let the clutch out and the motor starts to bog and stop there. you can feel the car tighten up. thats what you want to feel. just where ...

What tire pressure are you talking, like 38-40? yes you can go around the water. you can watch, most of the "pros" will go around the box, then back up into it so only the rears get wet. and pressure wise, yeah 40 would be fine. check your tires what the max pressure is and go little below that....
What RPMs was your launch / shifting done @? I shifted the OBS @ redline the day I tracked it when it was N/A & later realized I should have short shifted for better times...

Something small I've always done, I even catch myself doing it at stop lights. Shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd then back down to 2nd and lastly 1st, lines up the synchros a bit to make it easier when shifting. __________________ Black on black on bronze L
