Thread: 1st Fraxel treatment for Melasma

Started 2 years, 6 months ago by Chakra
I just had my first Fraxel treatment for mild melasma Thursday. Everything has been pretty smooth so far. Even the recovery has been a lot better than I imagined. My Doctor did pretty minimal settings and 4 passes so my skin wouldn't hyperpigment from the inflammation. Since it's only been about 15 hours, I'll keep you posted. The swelling has been controlled by bags of frozen peas...

Chakra, How are your results so far? And the healing time? Was it worth it?

Do you know the difference between Fraxel and Fractional (non ablative) Laser Resurfacing? I had the latter done a week ago ... but from what I'm reading, Fraxel seems more intense. They used the Palomar machine on me. I was only swollen a day or so and red for only a few hours. thanks, J

It seems that there are many different levels of "laser resurfacing" and mine was definitely not "fraxel". The "Palomar" machine is very low risk in that I swelled a bit and stayed a bit puffy for 2 or 3 days and then it was gone. Only 3 or 4 whiteheads appeared and not a problem. I was bright red only for a few hours and then I looked a bit pink for a day or so. I must say that I have ...

I did this specific laser because I did not want downtime. I also had my doctor use the lowest settings because I have mild melasma and did not want to make it worse. Tomorrow is two weeks out and I have to say I am pretty impressed with Fraxel. Keep in mind that I did this specifically for my bothersome melasma spots so the added benefits make this amazing. I had my hair done ...

Chakra, May we have another update on your progress? What is your skin type and age? I too have melasma but am so afraid of making it worse with laser, i know the results can be very variable. Ze bra

Hi Ze bra - I'm 36 with light olive skin . I started noticing little patches of brown on my cheeks about 3 years ago. Over time they developed in to little star like patches, the size of a dime, right under each eye . This spring I noticed a little on my upper lip. I was using Epiquin Micro, but as soon as I stopped using it, the patches became dark gray. I'm having my ...

Chakra (or anyone else who had Fraxel) What can I expect to look like for the 1st couple of days? You mentioned purple?

Chakra, I'm pleased this seems to be working for you. I'm seeing a dermatologist on monday for some advice. I am so afraid of making mine worse. Many people have had bad experiences with peel s and lasers in terms of hyperpigmentation. I'd be interested to know what alternative therapies you are using alongside the fraxel. I'm trying licorice extract - it's supposed to inhibit ...

Dear Chakra, thank you so much for sharing the GOOD news with us. I have same melasma on upper lip and on cheek and wil do first fraxel in Sept. It seems to be the most succesful treatment out there for this condition. I wouldn't touch any other laser having read all the horror stories. Please continue to share the progress - with detail afterall, we are on this site to get the low down...

hi-there are so many machines around,i never done any and am new to this site. have anyone tried IPL or cooltouch?im interested in fraxel, please advise more and if it hurts, and whtas the costs? also, chakra, any picture upload?oh yes,why did all of you say 'other types of lasers' does produce hyperpigmentation?does it appears very soon after you have your treatments?does it happens to ...

IPL good for freckles and age spots which as far as i have learnt are at epidermal level but not for melasma especially on upper lip as it is a hormonal thing and at the deeper dermal level. IPL usually makes melasma worse. So far Fraxel best for melasma but there are also a couple of horror stories here too so we need to hear all the details good and bad !!!
