Thread: 10mm vs .45 acp?

Started 3 years, 6 months ago by 5150Kramer
I'm thinking about getting a new handgun, probably another Glock, but maybe a Colt or Springfield. I can't decide, so anyways, what do you guys think, 10mm or .45 ACP, and why?

If this is to be any type of a defensive piece, in any type of an urban or suburban area, the .45 takes it hands down. A cartridge as potent as the 10 will simply perferate the felon you are shooting at, and go on to strike something else. If you are in a rural area, or plan on using this backpacking in the woods, I would choose the 10.

I wish that was an option.....but just a little out of my price range.

10 hands down. Better learn to reload too.

Both are great calibers. 10mm ammunition is expensive and many shops won't have it. Example: We charge $16.95 for .45 ACP ball ( I know it's expensive.) We charge $24.95 for 10mm.

Well, I'll be using it for both home defense and as a hunting sidearm. I have a Glock .40 cal and I'm really wanting a 10mm to take on hunting trips, but then again I'd also carry it for self defense as soon as I get my concealed carry next month. So, I'm having a tough time deciding between the two.

I don't know much about pistols and loading but if your leaning towards the 10 and are worried that it might go through your target then i'm sure theres bullets/powder loads that will stop before exiting the attacker.

If you already have a .40, then get the Glock 20. You can shoot your cheaper .40 ammo through the model 20 10 mm whenever you want.

10mm hands down. 10mm can do allthings far more effectively than the .45, which cant do anything as well. no comparison.

Depends on what you own already and what your financial situation is. If money is tight, I'd say go with the .45. If it isn't, go with what you want.

Rather than downloading the catridge - get a better expanding bullet.... Makes a bigger hole that way... Biker

If you download the 10mm. to avoid the bullet passing through the attacker, you would be rendering the .45ACP and the 10mm. essentially equal.

both are great and I own both, shoot both, carry both, reload both, etc.. however, if you don't own a 1911 the run out and get one asap! call Ted yost, cylinder & slide, clarck customs, night hawk or the best that there is Sandy garrett. you pay more for a custom but it's worth it!
