Thread: $100/Year for Live?

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by SilverFireshot
Quote: Destructoid Blarg. I already look at the cost of Xbox Live as a bill, just like my utilities or phone bill. And now I'm hearing one analyst say that he expects it to increase? What next? Interest rate hike? Maybe I'm throwing it out of proportion. But a price hike is in the cards, he says. In the most recent episode of Game Trailers' Bonus Round, ...

It's Michael Pachter . (link URL may not be work safe, content is fine)

I know it's Pachter who is crazy. But his predictions make for entertaining and interesting conversations. Plus at this point, I really wouldn't put it passed MS to raise the price of Live. Especially since they are adding more and more features to Gold accounts.

Dragun replied 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Or, they could just add another level of service that includes all the extra features they have been adding. Gold could just become regular online gaming and to get Netflix and all the other goodies you might have to dish out 100 bucks for a platinum membership or something like that. Also, gold could always go up in price for all those features and basic online gaming could become part of a...

The thing is, Microsoft doesn't have to raise the price. They already did. It now costs money to play dress up with new Barbie clothes. Is everyone paying that money? No. But it doesn't cost them any existing subscribers that a rate hike might. The revenue stream is in the funny money, not the subscription. (And anyone paying the going rate for Live and complains about it isn't really ...

Xbox Live's major competition is "free". They are not going to raise the price of Live for no reason. Patcher is a goon as usual. He made this prediction simply because people would notice his name.

I have to disagree with the "platinum" subscription idea, I already pay netflix extra to stream it to my home, i shouldnt have to pay microsoft extra to do it through my box. If microsoft does jump the cost up to $100, i will build myself a new PC with an HDMI out, hook it up to my plasma, and game from that.

If MS raised the price for Live $100/year, then I'm done with gold membership.

If they had a 'premium' tier, then it better come with a hot chick that comes to my house at least once a-week for blowjob and sex.

Great Jebus, I hope they don't. I'd probably end up keeping it so I can keep the chat function (Much better than AIM and Skype...), GTA:IV, and ODST with my bud. But I would certainly mourn the money lost...

I always just find a way to weasel my way out of paying full price for live every year (winning contests, buying that useless camera, etc). But yeah, $100 is really steep and I don't see it happening. Microtransactions really are their way of subliminally charging more.
