Thread: 03 Chevy Idles rough and dies

Started 1 year, 6 months ago by Smoojock9010
03 Chevy Idles rough and dies My 03 Z71 has recently started idling real rough when in park or at a stop light. Occasionally it will die also. I am going to take it into the dealership to get it checked out, but don't want to get screwed. Has anyone had this happen so that I know what the situation is before I go spend money to fix it. Maybe...

Re: 03 Chevy Idles rough and dies sounds like a dirty spark plug. It may just need a tune-up.

Re: 03 Chevy Idles rough and dies Is it acting like it's starved for gas? I'd also say bad injectors if that's the case, though with an 03 that's a bit odd. The Injectors on my '90 Firebird V6 went bad, 3 of the 6 were below spec, with 2 of them basically shorting out, causing the ECM to over heat and shut the car down to prevent damage to ...

Start with the easy stuff. I would bet it is a dirty throttle body, I do services on those on a daily basis, people never believe it to be something that simple. Pop off the air intke tube where it clamps to the throttle body and spray the daylights out of the blade and internals with throttle body cleaner. (can be bought at any parts store) Pay attention to the little hole in the middle, thats ...

Possibly the fuel pressure regulator is sticking or leaking. There was a recall, not sure if it's this year. If you like post or pm me with the last 7 of the VIN, and I'll check.

The regulator will probably take care of it. There's no recall on the regulator, but an intake manifold gasket recall has been done.

He didn't have a fuel cap replaced on a nice car? Bull. Find out from a qualified source what the code is for the warning light.

1. Be sure the battery is good. 2. If battery is good you probably have a passlock problem, which usually means the ignition key cylinder or ignition switch is faulty. 3.

He said switch not lock, they are two separate parts. It does sound like a bad ignition switch. Get a hold of a volt meter and while it is acting up check the voltage at your fuses. If you find some showing a significantly lower number than the rest the switch is by far the most likely candidate.

Ok... So, I am really hoping someone may have some sort of answer for me here. I am pretty much more than angry with my car right now. My freaking car will not start when it is cold but it will if it is hot. I have within the last 3 weeks replaced my battery, replaced old looking wires, replaced my dang starter... what else will make a car have problems when it is cold? And by cold I do not mean freezing. I live in California so it is around...

Yeah I don't have a scan tool so I wish I did have one. Just thought i'd pick everyone's brains for some idea's. And to what I could also do myself. Guess i'll just wait till next week when we bring the car back in. I tell ya though...I like the car. Tired of the problems. I miss my 83 monte carlo, 81 trans-am. And I have to admit with all the problems i've had..I have so much more respect for ford mustangs....

Re: 03 Monte 3400 Emmisions light at elevated RPM's HELP. I had an 03 Monte that had similar problems... It was traced back to a damaged Catalytic converter that I messed up while driving over the snowbank at the end of my driveway that the snow plows left...The snow looked soft but was rock hard...My front tires were off the ground...I didnt mind to much because it gave me a reason to put on a new cat back dual exhaust...
