I incorrectly said Acrobat & should have said Adobe. When I try to open the file I get the error: Microsoft has encountered a problem & must close. It also has the check box about "repair & reopen" but this doesn't help. Then it automatically makes a copy. If I click on the error this is the info that appears. App Name: msaccess....

Sounds to me like an SP3 bug. There is no - uninstall on SP3 (thanks to Mr Gates). Best bet would be to use the system restore option to the day before you installed sp3 and see if that fixes it. Also have a good read of Chris's answer about front end / back end - this can also make a mess of things if not done....

I want to thank everyone for their help/suggestions. It appears my MS Office (& maybe just Access) was corrupt or had a corrupt file. I restored my computer to a previous date, removed and reinstalled MS Office and my Access files appears to be working great! Again, I thank everyone. -- Regards, June "June" ...

It appears I spoke too soon. After reinstalling MS Office 2003, I loaded all of the updates to include SP3. When I came to work this morning, two of my Access files are again no longer working. So there is obviously something wrong with SP3. What risks do I run by "not installing SP3"? Is Microsoft working on this issue/problem?...

I went to the site and downloaded the "hotfix" and put it into the MS Office folder, that didn't work, so I put it in the MS Office/Office 11 (where it appears Access lives) and still not success. I have rebooted my computer each time. What else can I do or should I do????????? Thanks, -- Regards, June...

June, you said you "put the hotfix file in the MS Office folder." Did you "Run" the hotfix download? If you didn't, the hotfix is *not* installed. -- Clif "June" <June@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5BFB6943-DF7D-4791-8D29-241274A3D55E@microsof t.com... > The response was the same error I'...

I believe you are 100% correct. Yesterday when I removed and reinstalled, without the updates (SP3) the files worked great. When I loaded the updates, the problem returned. But, am I risking anything but using Access without SP3?
