About 15 years ago I tried to get into PBCC and FAU, I was working full time and had a 3.4 average, That wasn't good enough to be accepted into the clinical portion of the program, each semester I was turned down and I became more and more frustrated. Knowing that a 3.9 would be impossible for me since work and I had been out of school since 1981.I have two bachelor degrees going into this. ...

Nurses are treated like everone else who works for a corporation-very badly. You get low pay, long hours, no benefits and then are told if you dont like it go somewhere else to work. You get to watch the CEO's of the hospital corporations take in huge salarys all the while the frontline worker does it all.State government could care less if there is a nursing shortage. Afterall the state ...

Let's talk straight here. If Nursing was a 'good' job, there would not be a shortage. Nurses are treated very poorly by the Hospitals they work in...pressure to keep pay down, long hours, no future, bad treatment, stressful workloads, arrogant Doctors and an administration that's more interested in the latest building program rather than Patient care.

Here's a concept. Utililze PARAMEDICS that are equally trained and educated as RN's to fill the shortage gap. Paramedics are used to working in high stress enviroments. Pay them what their worth. They are the ones saving peoples lives on a daily basis.

If there really was a shortage.. nursing wages & benefits whould exceed inflation by a considerable margin. Guess what??, that's not happening. Why, because they'll write another shortage article (like this one) or makeup another fake study which claims it.. And then bribe congress to open up...

There is NO nursing shortage. However, there is a shortage of nurses who are willing to put up with the abuse, low pay, and awful working conditions in the hospitals. The hospital administrators know exactly what they need to do to solve their staffing problems but they don't want to do it. Instead, they chose to spend the money on fancy buildings and outrageous executive salaries. There are many nurses who still have active licenses but...

Nursing is the worst job imaginable. You are abused by everyone---ungrateful patients, nasty and demanding family members, rude doctors, and management that couldn't care any less about you. They give you way too many patients to take...

Judged: 1 I have been a qualified FL RN for 30 years. The verbal abuse I endured from physicians, and stress level caused by balancing seemingly endless paperwork with a huge patient load almost wrecked my own health. I have been employed in a different occupation for 2 years, preferring a poverty-level income to providing sub-optimal care to my patients due to abysmal working conditions.

Sunsentinel Writers wrote: <quoted text> Maybe SunSentinel could do a story about how poorly nursing students and nurses are treated. Could help reform the behavior of nursing instructors. Gotta start somewhere I think that would be a very good idea. We had clinical instructors who berated us, screamed at us, made us cry and even hit us. One clinical instructor was brought up before a board because she would grab the students...
