i think the indians should explore trading victor.....i think he is a guy that provides you good hitting ave, power, and rbi's for the catching position, but his value does drop if you move him to 1B.....i think victor could get us a good middle infielder or possibly a front line pitcher......i would say this only if garko produces at the mlb level.....that is why they need to look at moving ...

(ie whether or not Victor should be traded) trading him now would be committing a cardinal sin in operating a baseball team - trading a player at his lowest value what you want desperately, if your plans are to trade Victor, is for him to get back to where he was defensively last year - then his value goes up and makes him tradable....

...or you could wait for him to go into one of his three month long slumps, continue to show no arm and be reminded of that bromide that god laughs at those who plan to be sure mike, i dont think the take from a martinez trade now would be less than 3 months ago

Martinez is productive and under contract for several seasons. I don't see trading him anytime soon.

i think a deal should be considered if we are getting a #1 or #2 starter in return, otherwise i'd be hesitant to trade him at his current worth.

that is my point.....i would only trade him if we got an impact pitcher or an impact player at 2nd base or OF.......if a position player this team needs to stress players that can play defense along with being solid offensive players.....victor is to 1 dimensional to be a main player on a championship team....

there is no way, as things stand right now, that the Indians could get anywhere near what either of you are suggesting for him

nah. You can win with Victor Martinez. This is a team that won 93 games with him behind the plate last year, afterall. That being said, I believe moving him to 1B is the better long-term option because Shoppach is a ML catcher, both with the glove and the bat. Martinez should be able to make a relatively good transition to 1B with a concentrated effort in the offseason. He has enough of a bat ...

I think we need to move Victor to 1st and have Shoppach behide the plate (the kid only gets better if hes playing).Trade Garko, yes trade him bring him up this year and then package him with someone to either get a power OF or a pitcher. Edited by: BIGGbuckeye04 at: 7/16/06 6:13:15 pm
