"Where will we get pets?" Your editorial incorrectly assumes that legitimate breeders will no longer be able to maintain their business. This is not the case. This legislation requires that legitimate breeders license their animals. This is already a requirement. So here will we get pets? From the same licenced, legitimate breeders who responsible pet owners SHOULD be going to in the first ...

Barb Murphy is exactly right. As Wayne Pacelles of HSUS says, he would not mind if pets became completely extinct. How anyone cannot see the writing on the wall, that mandory spay/neuter will make pets extinct, I cannot understand.

My dog is not spayed. He is not purebred, nor a status symbol by any means. He is my loyal friend and companion. He is not a pet. I would never dream of hurting him or his self esteem by barbarically "cutting something out" of him. I am a careful and responsible dog guardian-not owner, who does not allow him out of my immediate control to where he would get in mischief. He gets exercised, as I ...

Ya KNOW - that's exactly the response I get from all the kids - "where will I get a puppy or kitten when I'm an adult?" SO - how come the kids get it - and the adults haven't a clue! BRAINWASHING by H$U$ and PeTA - the terrorists, who hate pets, hate animals, even HATE PEOPLE!!!:(

Barb Murphy brings up excellent points in her letter. It should not be a crime to own an intact dog or bitch. Spaying and neutering of pets should be encouraged all over the country, but not made mandatory. People should have the right to choose whether to buy a pup from a breeder (and there are many of them, though one has to know where to look and how to evaluate breeders as well as dogs) or a ...

I'll do the same thing I've been doing for the last 50 years.....go to the pound and get a pet. I'll start worrying about the world not having enough dogs & cats the day I got to the Humane Society and they tell me that I can't have one because nobody has turned any in. That'll be one of the happiest days of my life.

7 Things You Didn't Know About PeTA 1. PeTA has stated repeatedly that their goal is "total animal liberation." This means no pets, no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no fishing, no hunting, no farming, no leather, and no animal testing for lifesaving medicines. 2. PeTA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. 3. PeTA funds the misnamed ...

Te next time you or a loved one needs surgery will you call Alex Trebeck? Or will you consult a medical doctor? It is laughable ( if it were not so incredible) that people, including the City Council would listen to a talk show host ( and former dog breeder, by the way)over the advice of the Illionis State Veterinary Medical Association and the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association. Both of ...

even though i do actually agree with many of the things you would like to see happen - many of us would - you still need practical implementation. so until ways are found to do that, the problem is just going to get worse. an overadundance of unwanted pets is just one of countless manifestations of this. which is why we need to bring in laws to arrest these issues now, one by one, before we do end up like china, with one kid per family and...

You know that Southern author, Rick Bragg? He goes into some detail describing those mean, nasty Southern men who are such a large part of Southern culture. His own Daddy was one of them. I think this forum gives me good examples of what he means. Every so often Peta asks us to e-mail a college president down south because one of the fraternities was reported for abusing pigs (they love to abuse pigs) So I guess the next generation will be...

And the only way punish these bad children is to take their...

Rather than them importing dogs from other countries, perhaps they could come to Chicago, or to any other large city, and visit a shelter or pet rescue. "He had a complete work up every year and before he was neutered and had a complete workup a few months after being neutered so I have the health records to show that neutering caused him to be hypo-thyroid." How exactly does this argument show cause and effect? Are you claiming that dogs do not get hypo-thyroid problems unless they are neutered?

Again, you all have no clue as to the cost of responsible animal husbandry. How dare you expect us to buy a $500 breeding permit when we are already hemorrhaging money on OFA X-rays and the like. For as much as you cry about an animals "rights," its "right" not to be eaten, etc... you sure don't respect it's "right" not to endure a painful surgical procedure... So let me get this...
