Mark - i like your idea about the melee, i think it could work verry well! i would have added a joust but its a bit of a specific skill wheras most WMA groups study staff or stick - bet it irish stick fighting, english quarterstaff,le canne,polearm and staff weapon trainng. the sword is pretty common although mock rapier may be a little hard to judge so backsword,broadsword,falcion ...

IIRC, the Melee was originally the main event of a tournament, rather than the joust. I could be wrong though.
