As the film's cinematic carol singers sing it's praise, I'm left standing with the minority opinion (I'll certainly admit that) scratching my head as I don't see much greatness in Unforgiven . I picked up the DVD of Unforgiven and watched it again for the first time in a few years. Its not holding up as good as Leone's films for me. Come to think of it action flicks have upsurped the SW formula using explosions instead of gunfights & without the style, but with cheesy one liners, lol . Like that thought. Reminds me on the following lines in Die Hard (1988) from Bruce Willis: "Yippee-ki-yay, ... ". "Well, nobody's perfect."

Take Eastwood out of the film and repalce him with any other actor and it just won't work. Eastwood has made a career with variations, riffs if you will on the Man With No Name persona. Please do not call yourself an Eastwood fan, because...

For the purpose of teaching them the fundamentals of analysis, if not literature, fifteen years ago I had a high school class watch " The Unforgiven" while they read SHANE and guided them to compare and contrast the film and book. "What do you mean by 'compare'?" "Point out what is the same." Both take place in approximately the same geographical area: Wyoming Both take place at approximately ...
