First and foremost, this is not a thread for the pro-smoking & anti-smoking people to argue with each other. If it goes down that road, I'll ask the mods to lock it. As we all know, 1st July finally sees the smoking ban introduced into England. I'm wondering how this will affect the smokers amongst us. Please - no 'holier than thou' non-smokers saying how much they can't wait until the ...

Good suggestion Jon, a sort of forum support group? I'll be keeping an eye on this to prevent pro and anti smoking bickering taking place. _________________ In these shoes? I don't think so! I haven't smoked at home for several years now due to wife being diagnosed with a lung desease, but I do pop into the garden when the need takes me - So I imagine that I'll be the same down at the pub. Alot of pubs are looking at the idea of arranging for an outdoor area for smokers that is covered but not 'substantially enclosed' in order to try and work around the wording of the new laws....

I only used to smoke cigars - I detest the taste and smell of cigarettes (note the use of the term 'used to' ) However, there was always a tin of cigars sat by my computer (I work from home) and I would get through 5-10 cigars a day at home as well as what I smoked at the local.

I smoke, however, i have been cutting down a lot recently without really noticing. At home we are not allowed to smoke in the house, so it will not really affect me if i have to go outside, and i think it will help me to cut down even more, as if im in a pub and want a ciggarette but have to go outside then unless someone wants to stay at the table alone, or every one is willing to take turns ...

I'll give it a go as well. I smoke around about 10 a day during the week, more at the weekend if I go out. If I can't smoke in the pub there's not really a lot of point really. See how I go!

This whole issue is fascinating. The new law will bring about huge social change and it will be interesting to see the nation's response. There was a wonderful story on the radio, about a pub (in Cornwall I think) called The Peruvian Arms, or something similar. They were looking into claiming diplomatic immunity from the Peruvian embassy, as a way round the smoking ban. Genius!
