I'm sure this has been discussed, but I'm looking for actual dialog rather than reading stuff in old threads. Anti-consumerism has been coming up in discussions of Wall-E (as well as environmental issues) as a criticism of the film. Words like "propaganda" and "liberal" etc. come up and I'm just curious: If you consider yourself a person who was offended or put off by this aspect of...

I guess some people just hate having their noses rubbed in their own problems and mess, even when in real life it's staring them in the eyes... Personally I found these "messages" to be quite subtle and well-placed, but some just can't help but feel insulted at the smallest and stupidest things. Although, how "liberalism" comes into this, I still have no idea. For Pete's sake, it's ...

Is it really something people find personally offensive? What is it that makes an ordinary, wage-earning American bristle at the implication that too much consumption by the general population might be a bad thing? Anyone out there with a negative opinion of this aspect of Wall-E, please, I really want to understand your viewpoint.

UPDATED Mon Jul 14 2008 11:52:21 Would you consider it a bad thing if you stopped eating fast food as much and didn't indulge in things you don't really need? Yes. I like eating Mickie D's every day, it gives me energy, vitality, strength to get through the day. I like to buy whatever and whenever I want. I work hard and I like to play hard. I like Wal-Mart. They have ...

There's a fundamental bias in your question, OP. You seem to think the "simpler life" (what does that mean to YOU anyway?) is fundamentally good, and by extension we can infer that today we are NOT living a simple life, and that is bad. I think this an extremely simplistic way of viewing the world - although this simplistically really is the way most people think about it, when they ...

I agree with the this joke post. Society is already taking steps away from axiomatic behavior in Wall-E. So, it's pretty clear that the movie isn't preaching to anyone about anything other than to suggest that falling in love is pretty neat. People are very quick to draw comparisons between BnL and Wal-Mart/Walt Disney without really thinking about the contrasts or intentions of the ...

Sorry, it's not satire. And to think Wall-E is just a love story with no other intentions is a bit naive.

Ha! Of course it's satire! Nobody could genuinely mean that stuff. Ha ha! (OOC: Of course there are other intentions in Wall-E, just not as ridiculously sinister as so many wish. Regardless, I think I prefer naivete over paranoid conspiracy.)

Keep patting yourself on the back and telling yourself how smart you are...you seem to enjoy that. Some people would like to discuss how this film actually impacts them and not care for wise-crack comments especially those that add little or no value to the topic at hand. Right, you go ahead and keep believing it's a love story between two robots. There is a kind of sad, poetic ...

Some people would like to discuss how this film actually impacts them and not care for wise-crack comments especially those that add little or no value to the topic at hand. Ha! The irony! Aren't you the one who opined such delightfully eloquent insights as, "Holy sht, you sound like a total moron"? Anyhoo... I believe we were discussing the overt lack of contrast between Disney/...
