Hi, I am a newbie in Benzworld. I have a 1995 S320 with 128K miles (I have own it since 2000). We are about to take a road trip from Minneapolis MN to Vancouver BC, about 1800 miles in 4-5 days. The car has been running fine, logging about 6-7K miles per year. What sort of check up and maintenance should I do before taking on this journey. And what should I do when I get there. Your ...

Check all your fluids and tyre pressure including the spare, also check you garage floor or parking space for any big leaks. One thing I always do on long trips and infact have in my car at all times is a container of pre-mixed coolant, a container of oil nad some fuel vouchers incase I'm ever stuck without cash and for whatever reason no bank cards are working. I echo NZ Benz's advice. I usually just get a coolant flush before a long trip anyway (the temp guage IS noticeably cooler righr after a flush, at least for me) Plus, how long has it been since the surpentine belt has been changed? As a contingency plan with an aging auto, I'd join AAA--cheap insurance. You're going to LOVE beautiful Vancouver, BC-! Have a safe trip ~ Unshaven

Use Mercedes Road-Side Assistance if you run into any problems. I used them to jump my battery once and it was so easy. Why pay for AAA if mercedes provides road-side for free?!? Have a safe trip!!

Check tire tread and air pressure, check belts for cracking, all fluids, spare tire, emergency first aid kit, AAA roadside, flares, take a plastic storage bin and put in brake fluid, extra clamps & hoses if you can, oil, tools and drinking water... Sounds like a survival kit but that's what I had coming from CA to TX. The first aid kit came in handy. An SUV pulling a trailer flipped on it's side...

and don't forget your sidearm! i always pack a loaded kimber 1911 .45 cal great stopping power and sweet insurance. gives one that sense of security. have a superb trip!
