Your best dog's accuracy fellas, How accurate were/are your best dogs from 1yr to 2yrs old. Year round, straight up. I'm talking for every 100 trees you walked to, how many times did you see coon eyes looking back down. No excuses, no naming names, just stats. If you had a 15 month old pup that pleased you in every way, but missed too much, would you keep working them? I...

I havnt raised any young dogs that are at that point yet bet one of my buddies has a 18 male that ive been with probably 20 times and I would say he is over 85% we will see come time when the leaves are off the tree. Then I throw out all den trees so if its a hole its nothing and if no hole just like at a comp hunt in neither hurts you or helps you.

imo, accuracy is something you can work on and improve... i wouldnt give up on a high powered pup thats 70percent or even 60percent i would put the time in and finish the job....at least to 2yrs old depending on wood time.

Hello Todd, you posted a great question. It is one that is gonna get a hole lot of responses and very little truth. I read on here everytime this topic comes up, someone will post before long that if they had a dog that was less than 95% they would not own it. You asked how many coons they would see out of 100 trees, that would mean that they would see no less than 95 coon. I realize you...

trott... GOOD READ. MOST PEOPLE COUNT THOSE "CIRCLE" TREES. MY BEST MALE WOULD HAVE FELL IN THE 75-80 PERCENT RANGE,BEST FEMALE WAS PROBABLY 80-85 PERCENT. THE MAN THAT OWNS HER NOW SAYS SHE'S A LOT HIGHER. LOST THE MALE TO A GATOR. THE GOOD ONES WERE USUALLY AROUND 65-70 PERCENT. SOME HAD TROUBLE MAKING THE 50 PERCENT MARK. FUNNY THING IS , THE MOST ACCURATE CAME FROM A TREE HAPPY BITCH....

Thanks Gummy!!!. Funny thing i like to watch as well, those same people that claim there dog is 95 percent will often also make a statement about how cold a coon their dog can run and not even realize their own contradiction that cold nose dogs may make more den trees. Thanks, Trott.

Todd, That is a lot of den trees. Without knowing any more, my best guess is that young dog is back tracking. I have meet many coon hunters over my 35 years of coon hunting, and I have only personally known a couple that actually keep written records. First if all, if i cut a dog loose and it doesn't end up on a tree that number would count against my dog. Second, if I don'...

I keep record also going back at least 13 years, and like John and Larry, a den is recorded as "no coon seen". I've seen several that go through that stage when they miss more than usual at what I call the teenage years. With the right handling, the good ones over come it pretty quick. You just have to hunt them through it, but it depends on the dog. If he's back tracking, ...
