I hear ya. 'Round these parts everything is far enough to make me think more than twice. Sucks. No band for me right now.

Costs us more to get to practice sessions and gigs. But, more importantly, people everywhere are cutting back on non-essential travel. Going to work and the grocerty store are essentials....going to a club to see a band would be one of the first things people eliminate (or severely cut back on).

I look at it this way ... playing in a band is a great activity when gas is expensive. Gear hasnt taken a huge jump in price. My roland doesnt burn premium. If you are losing money on gigs,,, Stay home and work on your material and dont take loser gigs. You cant stop living or playing just because gas is 4 bucks a gallon. Be happy you aint a truck driver.

On the other hand, when times get tough economically, entertainment historically usually picks up, since people want escapism from their troubles. I guess it depends. Rural clubs probably suffer more then urban clubs, because the customers have to drive further to get there maybe. My band will only gig in Fort Worth and the surrounding suburban bedroom communities.

There's an upside to this. Demand for oil is decreasing while many of us choose to stay home more often. Plus, while we're home, we can write more. Look on the bright side fellas.

If you are a pro , you will have to adapt to gigs that dont get effected that much. Festivals, corp, pvt parties, etc. When things get tough,, the real pros survive...
