movie recommendations (scary movies about ghosts/hauntings) | Thread profile

My mom and 13 yr old sister are really into movies about haunted houses/ghosts. Can you guys give me some movie recommendations on some good scary movies with ghosts/hauntings? It seems most "scary movies" now have a lot of torture/gore scenes. I've also found that some movies that seem to be about hauntings only turn out to be the main character's repressed memories of some awful/disturbing ...

Here is a haunted house/ghost story which is rated PG-13 and which I liked: What Lies Beneath (2000). Starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer.

I love, love, love what lies beneath. And house on haunted hill was actually really good too. I'm sure you've seen the Sixth Sense, but if not, it's worth a look.

Monster House!!!

I thought Ghost Ship (from 2002, with Gabriel Byrne and Julianna Margulies) was nice and creepy, although it looks like some people who posted on Amazon didn't like it. You can rent it and make up your own mind.

You should watch The Changeling . And the ORIGINAL The Haunting (I don't like remakes). And The Legend of Hell House (its got some nudity, but I was younger than thirteen the first time I saw it). I saw Shutter last month. Its a creepy ghost story with no gore.
