Until recently were all Dual Layer burners +R? The reason I ask is I am thinking of getting this burner ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136 105 ) because it has -R DL burning (which is all my old xbox reads), but I can't find -R DL discs anywhere except the cheapos on NewEgg (which have poor ratings). Should I risk it and buy a pack with my burner and hope for the ...

Thats a really good question man, I have no clue. Big help, I know. Only thing I could come up with is: Quote: Although DVD-R DL is acceptable for recording video, the superior reliability and features of DVD+R DL make it a better choice I looked on meritline.com too, and same thing, there are a lot more dvd+r dl for sale. Man, ...

I wish dual layer discs would get cheaper already. I'd like to start using them because I think I'd avoid my problems with discs locking up, but they still cost too much.

Same here LOG, although the quality is nowhere near DVD+R DL's. I have a pack of both single and dual and there is no denying the DL's are better. Also, you have to shrink a lot of the newer DVD files to fit them on a single, which obviously compacts the video and kills the quality. I just experimented with this myself today. I burnt the RHCP's Live at Slane DVD (originally a 7.25GB ISO ...

it's an emachines with an AMD Athlon 3200... 160gb hard drive, plus another 30 that I put in from an old machine. Nvidia gforce 4 graphics card. The burner is a Lite-On DVDRW, 8x I think, and it also has a Samsung CD-Rom drive. I was looking at getting a 16x DVD burner. They're only like $40... I just wish I could pinpoint the problem. Whether it be software, hardware, media, etc.
