Hi all, First post. First of all, I want to say that I am NOT a shotgun expert! I am WAY more comfortable with my handgun than I am with a shotgun. I am currently making a conscious effort to change that and have been practicing heavily with my shotguns. I don't mean to come waltzing into this forum acting like a shotgun guru, so everything I say here, take with a grain of salt!...

Nice one, both of you. An enjoyable post, and one in which I pretty much agree with all the points made. Welcome! _________________ The Hammer. Women want him, men want to BE him.

Thanks for the responses! I think the 37 is faster to download/unload than the 870/590 primarily because I can hit the shell stop and the round immediately and positively ejects out of the mag tub and drops into my hand. I can empty all four shells from the shotgun in just a few seconds on a very consistent basis. The Mossberg is pretty quick, and it's not much of a disadvantage...

Perhaps instead of a side-saddle (since you aren't allowed), get a couple of those two-round belt carriers. I have an old shotgun trianing book that was written for Law enforcement in the late 80's. It showed that officers would commonly have a two shot reload on their belt. You could put two or three of those on your belt and have 6 slugs at the ready. To me, a sling on a shotgun is ...

I have a couple Safariland 2 shell kydex belt pouches, but with all the gizmos and gadgets and widgets on my belt there really isn't room for more while remaining comfortable. Some people have the slings that have "bandoleer" type shell loops. Others use slip-on type butt cuffs. Most put them on the buttstock but some drape it over the barrel and put it on their strong side forearm ...

I think I'd like to see a couple of pictures of this rig. It sounds interesting.

Welcome, i am also new to the forums and am also transitioning somewhat from handguns. about the sights: I dont know if you can do this yourself or if the whole department will want to do it or not, but LaRue Tactical makes this "pivot mount". what it does, is it mounts on a weaver/picatinny type rail, like most optical mounts, and it allows you to be able to switch optics in combat ...

M24's post pretty well covers it for me. 1. Got to have a sling, the less complex the better. I prefer a simple leather strap with QD swivels. 2. I want a sidesaddle on my HD gun. As said earlier more and different kinds of ammo in an easily reached platform. I don't care for buttcuffs (sorry that sounds kinky) or sling loads. 3. I like GRS, don't care for standard ...
