switching from s-e p990i to nokia e71. after living with the p990i since aug 2006, and before that a p910 and p800, i have finally defected from uiq to nokia's series 60 in the form of the new nokia e71. part of the background to this is my reduced dependence on the p990i as a do-it-all device due to my adoption of an n810 internet tablet which has taken over as my main web ...

Quote: GDesk makes things much better for UIQ machines, but at the expense of performance and available RAM. I have to disagree. GDesk (at least my design, which is more functional than aesthetic), takes less RAM than Standby/Main. I just kill Stby/Main with SMP. Running any apps is done by a shortkey (or long key press), so on m600, you have 52 ...

Anagarika wrote: GDesk...takes less RAM than Standby/Main. OK, I was being too harsh on GDesk, and unfairly blaming it for contributing to the sad lack of RAM in my P990i. I never got to the point with my GDesk tweakings where I was happy to replace Standby/Main. It was frustrating never to be able to run more than one significant program (e.g. Opera, ...

Good move! I unwittingly bought a UIQ device earlier this year having been used to S60 and didn't know what I was letting myself in for. I thought since both operated on top of the same Symbian OS the two user interfaces couldn't be that much different. Oh how wrong I was! I miss that simple well thought out (much better than UIQ anyway) efficiency of S60. That will teach me not to fully...

Yeah, It's P990 implementation that was bad. After a fresh boot, you guys get about 15 Mb only .. while for M600, about 20Mb. People says, move to P1 .. or better still abandon SE altogether (if you visit UIQ section, you'll see why )

hi spooley, it looks like you followed a very similar route to me from psion through the various se touch-screens to the nokia e71. i had a slight diversion, well several years, to the sony clies after psion bit the dust so the e71 is my first non-touchscreen pda since the psion series 5. i must confess to missing the touchscreen a lot less than i expected. this is largely due to ...
