1979 450 Dead - Need Carbs :( | Thread profile

Hi All. Thanks for the help in the past. I pulled the carbs and a mechanic said the carbs sat too long and they are all pitted and not usuable. He has none so I believe him. Can anyone tell me if I should scrap the bike(say No ) or if a good clean used set might be available reasonable (I am out of work after 30 years)? Thanks all. I am bummed. Bob Wethersfield, Ct...

Hi All. I misunderstood my mechanic. I need a carb kit and bowls. Any ideas on where to get them?

Go to e-bay. Are the bowls THAT bad?? z-1 enterprises has carb re-build kits, as well as flatout. As far as needing bowls (if they are that far beyond repair) try e-bay.You can get a whole rack of carbs for about $25, but they will still need to be re-built. Go to www.gsresources.com and read up about carb re-building. It's easy, and will save you a lot of $$$$

Find out all the info on what your carbs were - brand, size, etc. Sometimes you can find some on fleabay that are 'new old stock' or flat out copies of what you need. Do your reasearch on who makes em. Chinese crap might be more trouble than they are worth. Korean, on the other hand could be OK. Read a post in the Restoration forum by olddualsport guy - he talks about getting a NOS carb...

ricepaddy.com. Local to where I live, and they're a good salvage yard. You might be able to score a set there, but as usual, they probably will need rebuilt. It's not hard, just take your time, and as previously mentioned, follow directions. I recommend gsresources.com as well. You are far from having to bury that old 79..... I bet you'll have it up and running in no time. ...
