Can someone explain this? The black parts in the top bar indicate parts that I have. The blue parts of the source bars indicate parts that I still need. How is it that I have a black part in the top bar that is shown as blue in the source bars? Shouldn't all the bars be indentical? Is this going to cause problems later with eMule thinking it still needs to download that part? I did ...

AFAIK it's black because you haven't finished downloading that chunk yet. Your file progress bar reflects what you have downloaded which may include parts of chunks, the sources' progress bars just show whole chunks they have (presumably because clients don't share partial chunks)

I've just never happened to see...

Yes. The whole chunk will remain in blue on sources that have it available until you have completed it. Mostly chunks will be transferred as a whole and so this is not so common, but when a client has a bad or poorly configured connection or simply unshares or closes then you end up only partially complete.

CITATION(niclights @ Jul 1 2008, 08:00 AM) Mostly chunks will be transferred as a whole and so this is not so common Since a few versions, emule tries to request the same chunk from every uploader. So if client A has only one chunk for you, and client B several ones, you may receive one complete chunk from both A and B, and only half of another chunk from client B. So that's not ...

Some users may also have this setting unchecked which may cause incomplete chunks... Options > Files > [ ] Try to transfer full chunks to all uploads

ZITAT(jestheonlyone @ Jul 3 2008, 12:31 AM) So if client A has only one chunk for you, and client B several ones, you may receive one complete chunk from both A and B, and only half of another chunk from client B. Hm when I think about it, I wonder if this method is kinda wasting ressources (in this case). I mean, when I download a chunk from 2 clients at once, one has some other...

It's not that I don't appreciate the new method. When it was introduced quite a time ago I just thought by myself "yes, it makes sense" but then I didn't really think about it anymore. It's just in that special case that I wonder if the old method was the better one, because here it's clear from the beginning on that emule would fail to complete two chunks, whereas it would at least ...
