My photography teacher called the strobist pictures I have been taking High-impact. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Does the strobist way of thinking about light lead us to take pictures that are dramatic but that aren't artistically aesthetic?

Steve, its a compliment learn from it and enjoy it. Photography teachers see the same c**p every year. To get high impact means they have seen something in your image. Well done really pleased for you Rich

I think it's a reference to punchy lighting. A little well placed light will really make an image "pop" in a way that you can't get with natural light.
