That's an interesting subject. I see three doctors on a yearly basis. I betI'd get three differnet answers from each of them. But I'd be willing tobet that if there were long term double blind studies, they would showresistance exercise to be benificial as early as the child can lift. I started with a machine that my uncle gave us when I was 11. I don't thinkit hurts, but what lifts do you have a child of 7 do? Bench, squat, rldl,sldl, goodmornings, clean...Even if they can master the mechanics of certain lifts, it just seems weirdto have 76lbs of kid doing one legged squats. Is there anything that theyshould shy away from?

IMo, kids under 14 or so should be focused on running, jumping, tumbling,and playing. Maybe 15 or so, really start getting focused on weighttraining.That doesn't mean an 11 year old CAN'T lift, but not really programmed oranything.

It depends on the amount of weight being lifted and the frequency oftrainng. i started lifting when i was 10-11 in middle school for wrestling/football.the program was bench, leg press, military press, curls every mondaywednesday friday. id say for a child pushups, pullups, dips, chins andcurls and running would be good. as long as they are using body weightresistance i dont think it could cause any problems at all. we used to domonkey bars until we fell off all day. i ...
