Bought a Llewellin pup two weeks ago this Friday, he's nine weeks old as of yesterday. Things have been going okay, BUT #1, he seems fairly independent. 25% of the time he'll stick right with me when we're outdoors. 75% of the time he's following his nose and off doing his own thing, my voice be damned. #2, his own thing while outside is looking for flowers, weeds, clumps of mowed grass, or ...

Has this puppy been thru kennel training? If not you should read some post on kennel or crate training it is the first thing I accomplish with a new pup.Kennel training use his name each time you approach the kennel ,he will learn that very fast.Do not allow him to charge out of the kennel when you open the door,if he does put him back, tap him on the nose when he tries to come out without being ...

Slick hes in his wonder weeks, I wonder what that is? I wonder what this is? I wonder if I can eat it? Hes also forming his personality and that is being influenced by the people hes around. Its absolutely critical he not be yelled at or force things from him, or hit him. Unless you want a dog that will growl when someone takes a bone from him later. Or walks by his food dish. You ...

In the house you said he is a crazy man running around after the skirts of the furniture and chewing at your hands. Hes telling you something, Hes saying I want to play, you need to play with him. If you dont like what he does in a certain room take him to another room he can express himself in (control the situation, not the dog). Look at your household, is it bizzy? is everyone rushing to do ...

Eating things they shouldn't seems to be a trait in Llewellins. Mine started eating small pebbles but I made sure she was not in a position to eat them by constant vigilance when outside. Now, at three years, I still find some strange stuff in her feces. Several things that may help. Never correct the puppy if the act is more than a couple of minutes old. They will not know why ...

1. Patience, endurance, tolerence, and persistence. 2. Reinforcement of the positive. 3. Immediate correction of the negative with all of #1 in mind. 4. Repeat 1, 2, and 3 above. 5. Before any of the above, let the pup be a pup. Their attention span is less than where we would like it to be. Build the trust and bond and then the dog will do what it can to make you ...

Are you crating him? he should be spending a fair amount of his time in his crate, and then take him outside immediately to do his business in the place in the yard you would like him to go. Also, use the "come" command when you give him his food, and in the backyard have occassional treats for reward when he comes to you. Play with him alot. You may talk to the vet about the eating ...

Concerning the eating thing, there is a large percentage of Llewellin population that will strange stuff. Keep up what you are doing. Just be watchful. Alot of non-Llewellins at our park eat dirt, go figure. My Llewellin eats plastic and once found aluminum foil in her feces (she got into the garbage.) May I ask who the breeder was? It sound like you got an independent dog and may ...

ohh I forgot too, give the dog ice to chew, it helps with sore gums from teething. My dogs even at 10 months think its a treat still.

Slick, Sounds like you are only experiencing normal puppy behavior to me. All that running around should tire him out. A tired puppy is a good puppy Nice thing at that age is they should be taking lots of naps. As far as taking him on hikes, let him explore, he needs to figure out all those smells and new things in his world. I wouldn't try to distract him so much unless you are ...
