I have an appointment to meet a ten month old rescue German Shorthair. He is now in a foster home after being turned in by a couple of @$$hole college kids got him as a puppy. I have no info as to the breeder or anything. Foster 'parents' say he is purebred and he looks it in the photo's. He has bad manners (jumping/not house broken etc.) but she siad he is a sweetheart has has tons of ...

I think it's great. My wife and I (more my wife than I) have done work with a couple of different rescue groups in the past to include GSP, Min-Pin, and a couple of non breed specific groups and have fostered and found homes for more dogs than I can count. You will have your work cut out for you but it is very rewarding to take a dog that nobody wanted and give it a forever home. Earning the ...

Sounds like the pup will be well taken care of and will have a companion in you. Take your time be patient and start the bonding process before you get really into the correcting bad behavior. Hes still a baby and needs to be treated that way, so dont get mad at him. Your other pup might pick up some bad habits before they kind of level out. So be cool and take your time. He may even show...

The Lab is a male and likely the most laid back dog I've ever seen. He has not once acted like a puppy and we got him a 9 weeks. Hopefully he doesn't get any bad habits. Can't wait till Thurs

SuperJohn wrote: I The nimrods kept him alone in a basement. I love German Short Haired Pointers! I say give it an honest chance. The dog deserves that much. If there are probles with agression and you think your children may be in danger I say you have to do what you have to do. You do know that a "Nimrod" is someone who shoots and hunts right?...

Good for you taking him on ... well done. Just be aware that rescues all come with some sort of baggage either mental and/or physical, so you'll have some bumps in the road. When you hit one don't be surprised, just handle it and move on. If you get a chance post a pic of the old boy. Eug

Quote: The American Heritage Dictionary offers two distinct definitions of a nimrod -- either a hunter, or a person regarded as silly or foolish. The dictionary goes on to explain that the second meaning probably originated with the cartoon character Bugs Bunny. The wily Bugs used the term in its original ...

Good for you SuperJohn, That GSP will make a find addition if you know what you are doing training wise. I rescued a 2 year old male lab that was a real handful and he is doing just fine now as a pet and hunter. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't teach an old dog new tricks either. With love, patience and good care the dog will surprise you every time. I know because I've seen it more...
