Sky have now migrated all their Email handling to Google, (Skoogle Mail) this week seeing the end of the SMTP provided Sky. As a result of this those of you who use non-Sky email address's are having problems sending emails in that format. ie youremailaddress@yourdomain.com To get around this problem, you can do any of the following - try 7) or 8) first: 1) Check with your domain ...

The very fact this thread, and all the info about alternative methods of sending email, is necessary, is, IMHO, an indictment of Sky Broadband. They are annoying a lot of people, (how many more don't even know about this forum), and making life unnecessarily difficult. The old way, pop.sky.com to receive and smtp.sky.com to send, (no need to specify port, register and authenticate ...

NewsreadeR, There is another way of getting around this, and ive already stated this in another thread is to use your own smtp software and use your own computer as an smtp server. That way what ever mail client you use, all you need to change the smtp server to your local ip address of your computer which will be 127.0.0.1. So far ive found two programs which does this job:- ...

Firstly, thank goodness for this forum because Sky Customer support has been poor. They only offered one of the 8 options offered here (Option 1). Of the eight options, I have tried... Option 1: Didn't work. But this didn't surprise me because with every other ISP I have used I have had to use their smtp server and couldn't reach those of my other email providers. Seems Sky are no ...
Alan b I don't think you quite get it.. This is nothing to do with Sky mail as such.. in order to send out any outgoing email you have to authenticate it with the account holders username and password, that is the person who ordered the broadband.. Let me give you a scenario.. A girl in a family sends her boyfriend an email and the reply he sends because of sky and google ripping out the return path now goes directly to the girls dad as...
Just to comment re Freesmtp local server software solution. - Eventually got it to work with xp (needed to adjust router settings) - Had no joy with Vista - Failed to be able to send to many addresses including gmail (managed a yahoo.com - address, but was spam filtered,) - then ran out of email sends. only 10 emails allowed per day. Its free so thats good, but thought it might be worth pointing out some its limitations..
adding a new address doesnt work - still says on behalf of in outlook... from sky/google help... 1. Log in to your Sky Email account. 2. Click Mail Settings along the top of any page and then select the Accounts tab. 3. Click Add another email address in the Send mail as section. 4. Enter your full name in the Name field and the email address you'd like to send messages from in the Email address field. Replies are delivered to the From:...

Not true! You get 10 email address with sky BB, so that is 10 authentications on the SMTP servers. Enough for most families I think.

Luckily I had the option to send through my hosting provider newnet. However I did have some problems getting this to work. I found that it was necessary to create a new account in outlook rather than amending the details in the existing one. Wasted an awful lot of time fiddling with the old settings. Hope this may be of some help. (I'm using a mac for info) Must say a thanks to newsreader, paulsky, iamnottheenemy and skyuser in general,...
