I read some time ago that transporting a shotgun that has been assembled (ie barrels + forend + action and stock all together ready to shoot) leads to premature loosening of the barrels/action connection. When I bought a K80 in the early 80s it came in a padded canvas, full assembled length, Krieghoff bag that suggested to me that transporting the gun assembled might be no problem....

I don't know where you read it, but I'm having a hard time believing it. Unless the gun was an utter mess to start with, I just can't imagine normal drives of any length hurting any halfway-decent shotgun at all. I'm no engineer or metals expert, but it just doesn't compute for me. I've been back into upland hunting for about a dozen years and the miles driven would have to be well into four ...

Imstat, I have been carrying my shotguns fully assembled for over 40 years. Nothing undue has happened to the guns. The only unusual wear I have noticed has been my age and weight getting larger and my money getting smaller.

Must have been using grease instead of wet lube. Or is it the other way around? Or was it the wrong grease? Had to be something serious like that to wear it out in the case. Dave

I don't have a hard time, "believing it"! Not at all! Locked up tight, where is the wear? Pure and utter, BS! Constantly breaking it down and reassembly would contribute much more to a wear situation, in my mind. _________________ Mechanical Engineers build weapons, Civil Engineers build targets. Pumpster, Given the cyclic rate of over unders, I don't think it matters much what is used, only that something is used. I tend to lean toward the "wet" side of things, but more for convenience than any doubts about the efficacy of grease. None of the gun grease is really gun grease, it's just grease intended for some other application put in a container that says gun grease--little magic in ...
