I have a shotgun I want to put a scope on, I was thinking of about a 3-9 x32,I found a simmons Blazer and a Bushnell sharpshooter at Optics Planet for about $30 but it says for rifles ,is it really necessary for the scope to say shotgun and spend the extra cash. I went to a gun shop and explained to the guy what I wanted he said to get an air rifle scope because they are made stronger to handle ...

"Shotgun" scopes typically have - Less magnification - Longer eye relief - Parallax free at substantially less than 100 yards.

Everything I've read says there is a different type of recoil that a rifle scope wasn't designed for. If I remember right a muzzle loader has the same type recoil and may work.

As mentioned, a "rifle" scope typically has around 3" of eye relief (the distance from the eye end of the scope and your eye) while a shotgun scope ususally has at least 3.5" and more often 4" of eye relief. With a shotgun, there is quite a bit of gun movement during recoil and that extra distance can mean the difference between a cut and stitches across the eyebrow or not. The parallax for ...

A shotgun scope is DESIGNED FOR A SHOTGUN. As jlb said: - Less magnification - Longer eye relief - Parallax free at substantially less than 100 yards. Also, any $30 scope would be a complete waste of time and money. Decent glass is substantially more costly. Decent glass not only has better optics, but will hold up, whereas cheap glass will not. If I were to scope ...

The eye relief is the big point. Also SS is right... you should be spending as much on the glass as you do on the gun...

yep you shouldnt scrimp on optics at all, there are so many combo guns being sold and the scope fails in the field at the wrong time ie; the 300wsm and a cheap simmons 3X9 proghorn they will nost last get a good one to start out wiht. _________________ We were brothers then, we are brothers now, we will be brothers forever, Currahee.

Hmmm? I have always thought that shotgun scopes were for people who did not know why we use shotguns. Low light turkey hunting is about the only thing I can see as a use in my shotgunning. Can someone tell my why you would need a scope on a target at 30 yards? _________________ Spencer

I'm going to be using my scoped shotgun for turkey "card" shooting at around 100yds,sometimes early mornings and sometimes evenings, so their will be low light at times.I generally use open fiber optics sights for hunting, except my slug gun.
