Official Samsung U550 thread | Thread profile

Does anyone have a tutorial for importing my own ringtones into the Samsung u550? My wife has the u540 and it was no problem importing ringtones into hers using Bitpit. With the u550, the file structure is different. I can't find the /brew/mod/mr directory to import my ringtones into. Any advice?

I finally took a look at the Verizon Wireless store and it's not as bad looking as the pictures made it out to be color wise. If I had to go with this phone, I could live with it, but do wish it were available in black. I still haven't made up my mind what my upgrade will be. I'm leaning between the U550 & the U740.

I've been trying to import my ringtones into the u550. The /brew/mod/10889/ringtones directory is blocked for access while trying to save a file to it. I can send a ringtone via email to the u550 and then save it using phonenumber@vzwpix.com .

Does the u550 clutter up the screen with blue bars when you set a calendar date or set the alarm clock?

I just got my u550. I am happy with it so far. But it is frustrating that I cannot find a way to get ringtones onto it without paying Verizon $.25 per file to get them onto the phone via email. I have a data cable from an older Samsung phone that appears to work. I can connect to the u550 with BitPim, but the Ringtones folder is locked by our friends at Verizon (as noted earlier...

Lowering my expectations... It would be nice if I could at least transfer my contact list from my old phone (a Razr V3c) to my new sch-u550. In BitPim, I have a found a file that I believe contains the contacts DB: "/brew/usercontactsdb.a" The hexdump of this file shows the names of the entries in my contacts list, but the numbers are not in a format that I can decipher.
