Probably try longer distances and/or climbing up a longer hill.

Thanks for the input so far. I think what you [Road Fan] said makes sense, about the level of exertion being a big factor in what the body will tolerate. What is a reasonable distance to ride to determine if a bike actually doesn't fit? My usual ride is about 1/2 mile up a very steep grade (15%?) to a circular path that's mostly flat and has one hill and one short decent...

Bike fit is important, bike frame size less so since the seat height is adjustable via the seat post and the cockpit length via different sized stems.

You have already noticed some of the differences. You say "This is less comfortable because the handlebars are lower but I can still ride it. " Yes you can still ride it but for how long? I can ride pretty much anything for 10 miles no matter what the size, gearing, shape, ect... It is when you are in the saddle for 5+ hours that 1cm makes a difference.

I vote for a good bike fit by a reputable practitioner(not just a dude at a shop) Serotta/ specialized etc. You don't have problems now but this is when you can ruin your body for the future!!!!! It's not worth the risk! Cycling is so repetitive. Just do it!
