I recently picked up a Nikon Omega scope with the 250 BDC reticle to put on my T/C Omega. The directions say 150 grains of Pyrodex, but I usually shoot Triple 7. Has anyone had any experience with Triple 7 and this scope reticle? Dave

Nope. Any rangefinding reticle like that, you need to test it in real life. Actually set up targets at those ranges and shoot groups. I have the Leupold with the Boone & Crockett reticle, and it's not even close to what they say it is. 777 is a little hotter than Pyrodex, that's why you need to shoot it. And remember, temperature plays a HUGE role in velocity in any gun, especially in ...

Agreed - I just bought a nice Burris which has 3 extra 'holdover' marks. They include over a dozen pre-calibrated tables for 'popular' loads in many calibers including my .308. Baloney! I am going to post a grid target at 100 and visually count off the MOAs for each mark - then I will test fire groups using each mark to verify. Only then will I actually calibrate by shooting groups ...

It'd be an even bigger pain with a muzzleloader.....cool down, reload, shoot 3 shots at 100 yards, 3 at 125, 3 at 150, 3 at 175, 3 at 200.....I don't even want to think about the mental thoughts while going through this.

Thanks guys. That is why I asked the question. I have done a ton of load workup for centerfires and this reticle seems too cut and dried. If it said a bullet with a certain BC at a certain velocity, I might see how they could make the claim, but I know there are too many variables to just say this weight bullet and this much powder (of any kind). all the ads for the Nikon BDC specify the ML, how many grains of Pyrodex and the bullet type and weight. Even at that, each ML, even the same make and model, has its own personality so to speak. Its really unrealistic to expect perfect results out of the box as we can't with a centerfire and even more so with a ML. Its just the reality of things. We have to spend our time on the range working...
