Rob Thanks for the info, just returned home and followed your instructions and reset to manual which is great thank you very much indeed. Just noticed your location, well I am over the other side of the pond in South Wales UK and am very graetful for your help. The path to executable is C:\WINDOWS\system32\atwtusb.exe -s For someone with such limited knowledge of the box on my desk it...

When I try to put my PC into standby mode it will no longer allow me to. A messege pops up with the following. "The service WTService is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again". What does this mean and how do I stop it, any advice would be useful

Thank you for asking your question at PCSupportforums.com. Is this a Windows XP computer? Is it from a specific manufacturer? Try this: Go to Start > Run... and type services.msc and hit Enter. See if you see this service listed or anything related to the program there. If you do, come back and let me know.

Rob Thanks for your repy, in answer to your questions, Yes its windows XP the PC is not manufacturer specific, parts were bought and assembled two years ago. And yes WTServies can be found within Services (local) by following your instructions and under startup type it says automatic. Any idea how I can stop it also how do I change it to manual. Cheers Colin

If you go back to the services applet, you can double click on the entry and change the startup type to manual. This will prevent it from starting on boot up. Also, if you reply with the path to executable we can possibly see what this service does.

Colin, Do you use a graphic tablet or anything similar? This service is usually a part of a drawing or graphic tablet from what I can see. Watch for any issues that disabling this service may cause you in the future.

Hello, I have the same issue, because of the use of a graphic tablet, as Rob said. The problem is that if I stop the wtservice, then the tablet does not work. What should I do? If I start the service, then the standby or hibernate mode does not work? Any better solution please? Thank you, Marinos

Try This: When you are using (or attempting to use) the hibernation command from the Start menu, hold down the Shift and Control keys. This will force your machine into hibernation. The Shift key will change the command from Standby to Hibernation and the Control key will force the command. Let us know if it works.
