I also have had this experience - and agree that it is NOT FUN! After 2 weeks I still hadn't had my first BM and was extremely uncomfortable. My doctor told me to try any of the over the counter laxatives, I tried a couple and didn't get the relief I was looking for. A friend recommended Smooth Move Tea - I love it. I highly recommend it to anyone, I'm taking it every other night while I ...

My first bowel movement was unbelievably painful, also. When I left the hospital, the nurses said not to strain with a BM,but that was easier said than done! Anyway my friend who's a pharmacist, said to try Miralax powder. It takes a couple of days to get down there, but it really worked. There's a softener in it,which makes things move much easier. Be careful of it though. I've been taking only ...

I can relate to the painful BM - 5 weeks out and it's still painful and I didn't have any rectal problems that I know of. My doctor seemed to suggest it has to do with the way the "packed away" intestines during my TSH. Basically it feels like really bad gas pains - in spite of the stool softener and the bran flakes. it's a sharp pain that lasts about 20-30 seconds and then goes away after I ...

Oceanlover, yes, how lovely indeed. Can't picture men talking like this. Nice to know, though that we can share this info with our "sisters." I'm 20 days out,it hurts less to go,but it seems I use muscles I didn't know I had,and they hurt afterwards. A stool softener helps.

I'm sorry to hear all of you that are having problems with painful bowel movements! I actually had a complication of an ileus which caused severe diarrhea( clear liquid) and vomiting; once that was better my dr. has me taking coolace daily one at night, and I eat a salad every day and drink lots of fluids. Now I'm pretty regular, better than I was before surgery, which happily surprised me
