Stealing a donut is a misdemeanor and would not trigger the 3 strikes law in most states. If he steals using a gun or knife then that IS a felony and he deserves the 30 years. Only a sociopath or psychopath behaves that way and society is better off with them behind bars. As far as who hired the cop who killed those young people... who knows! I'm sure we will find out....

I'll probably be sensored for this comment, but the short answer is this world is going to hell in a hand basket. The guy was hungry, and took the donut. No jurisdiction should hire someone that young. Two separate incidents - but both part of the grand picture. The world is in trouble.
