The first question is legitimate and interesting. The word "hero" is so overused as to be virtually meaningless at this point, and an examination of whether or not McCain behaved heroically would be worthwhile. The second part? Not so much. I personally don't see anything "heroic", per say, about it. I don't mean to diminish how much of a trial it is, but that isn't the definition of "heroic" to me. Refusing to be let go early because his father was a high-ranking officer and instead waiting until his comrades could go free is very much admirable and should be commended, but I don't think it constitutes anything in the realm of heroism.
