I just graduated from college and am looking at a few job prospects in Pittsburgh. I've lived on the east side of Detroit for most of my life, so I'm looking for a lively artist-oriented neighborhood with a relatively low crime rate. I've heard a lot about the south side, but want to know more about the cost of living in that area. Are the nearby stores pricey? Does the county tax food/food ...

But you are paying for the close proximity to a lot of bars, shops, restaurants. The South Side Works is a nice complex with a few upscale shops, a movie theatre and a few eateries. Also, downtown and oakland are easily accesible from the southside. I dont know ...

there is no tax on alcohol in pa because it's tax prior to you receiving it from the state store or distributor. There is tax on prepared food and "luxury" items like soda pop, candy I think stuff like that. tax in pitt/philly is 7% the rest of the state is still 6% sales tax on stuff that isn't clothes or groceries.
