It takes a LOT of dedication to get a parakeet talking, and even then that's no guarentee that it ever will. If you really want your heart set on a talker you need to get a large parrot. Smaller birds don't really "talk" like the other birds, and they're a lot harder to understand. Also just keep in mind with a large parrot they really are like having kids! I can officially say this ...

Growing up my grandmother had a parakeet that talked. His name was toogie, he was a smart bird.

I have an American parakeet and an English Budgie, the Budgie is a bigger bird and slightly different head shape. They both LOVE to learn new whistles and I am working on words, I love these little guys. So loving and gentle, if you can find an aviary that takes the time to raise them hand fed it's worth the extra money. You probably won't be happy, or it won't be what you're looking for, if you...

I hate birds. No offense, but I have never liked them. They smell, IMO. Howver, if I was going to get one, I would get one that would be able to talk the most. Heck, maybe I could even have an intelligent conversation in this house for once!
