I found a Russian Mosin Nagant M91/30 today for $89. The stock was in good shape had decent rifling, and still gunked with cosmoline. The numbers matched and had markings similiar to these http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/0106.jpg . Is this a good price for the gun ?

IIRC, that triangle w/ arrow means it's an Izhevsk arsenal mark. What year is it, anyway? I'd pay that for a 91/30, so it's a good deal to me. Have fun cleaning the cosmoline out/off.

On surplus/commercial ammo yes they typically are because the ammo was designed for a rifle with a 31 1/2" barrel. it took some time for the Russians to 'tune' the ammo for smaller barrels. I do know that the 90's production "7N1" '...

Or skip the Mosins altogether and search out a nice M-1896 Swedish Mauser or Swiss K-31 Schmidt-Rubin if accuracy and high build quality are your main concearns. My Finnish M-27 is a good shooter...better than any other Mosin I have ever shot, but it won't keep up with the Swedes or Swiss on the range. - Brickboy240

I know...the prices on good military rifles has just gotten insane. Garands for 900+, M-1 Carbines for 500+, Lugers hovering around a grand....and yes...the Swede Mauser's going rate today is somewhere around 300 bucks. Glad I jumped through hoops for a 325 dollar Garand in 1989. Bought a Rock-Ola Carbine for 110 dollars in 1990 too. A new unfired 1952 Russian SKS for 75 bucks in 1991. ...you get the picture. Thats why I cannot bring...

Wow. I feel lucky to have found a 1942 war-time manufactured (rough receiver and high wall)...

Gosh, all those high prices that you guys mention when purchasing your machines. Makes me proud to have squandered $39.95 each on five Finn 91/30s '44 models at a department store some years back. Ed
