our african adventure had an in auspicious beginning. we were severely jetlagged after more than 30 hours of travel from the SF bay area. and then at johannesburg we were flown to mala mala on a DC3 that we nicknamed the "vomit comet" after four out of five members of our party became airsick on the turbulent flight. at mala mala the opulence of our surroundings were surreal. but we only...

Thanks for sharing your vacation, ed! I love all of it so far, especially the last few of the hyenas. I hope to see more threads or photos in this one? note to self: if ever in the position to eat giraffe, the tastiest parts are the eyes, face, and rear haunches.

okay to be honest i loved these powerful creatures and in retrospect photographing them was the high point of the safari for me.

It's interesting how certain prides of lions learn how to specialize in certain species. There are some prides that specialize in elephants, others buffalo, and some giraffe. Such fantastic animals. Glad you had such a good experience, Ed.

Whoa! That first shot. Am I reading the EXIF correctly? It was shot at 115mm ? Were you about 100 feet (~30 meters) from the scene? These are great shots, by the way. Thanks for posting.
